Golden-crowned Sparrow

Please check out my latest West Coast Beat Writer post on the Golden-crowned Sparrow over at 10000 Birds. These sparrows are a regular winter visitor to the Western United States from Canada and Alaska. Just one of the advantages of living in California 😉

Larry, this is such a pretty bird. I love the buff color on the breast. Beautifully photographed!

Love that golden crown! Pity we don’t see such sparrows around here.

He’s similar to our common sparrows but with the little golden crown. Very cute!

We used to have the golden-crowns when we lived in Oregon. They loved our brush pile. In cold weather I used to scatter seed around in it…and always felt guilty when we got rid of the pile in the spring.

Larry, nice article! Love the photos of this bird I’ve never seen. I understand they may rarely visit our area so maybe I’ll get lucky!
