Anna’s Hummingbirds (Calpte anna) are still buzzing around our garden. We usually have some hummingbirds that remain here during the winter so I leave my feeders up until I don’t see any hummers for several weeks. Click on photos for full sized images.
This female was feeding at a Cardinal Climber (Ipomoea quamoclit pennata) my wife planted along the garden fence.
Hummingbird feeders are great, but if you want birds in your yard year round, you will want to plant landscaping that attracts birds.

These are wonderful Larry. I used to plant plenty of Bee Balm (Monarda didyma) to attract hummingbirds ot my garden because theyloved it and personally I loved the smell of the crushed leaves.

Great photos of beautiful little birds. I agree with you about the landscaping with plants that birds like. When I first came to live here I went and looked at my neighbors yards to see what shrubs and trees had birds in them – then went home and planted similar ones. It worked!
As a child, I was amazed to read about the impossibly high number of wing beats per second made by a hummingbird in flight. While I’ve never seen one, your photos are full of their movement and the wing blur says it all!

Your site is excellent, thank you. I live in Prescott, AZ, and each winter hummers visit the feeders I bring in at night. They visit while it’s snowing and throughout the winter.
