Turkey Vultures Sunning On A Fence photo by Larry Jordan
This is a typical pose for Turkey Vultures. They will often roost like this, warming themselves in the morning by opening their wings to the rising sun. You can spot them in trees, on fences or almost anywhere. Today I saw three Turkey Vultures standing on a sandbar in the Sacramento River striking this pose.

Wow! I love these guys fanning their wings like that! What a great shot. I was out most of today visiting my fav lakes and trails and you are right…many turkey vultures are streaming over head looking for lunch, I guess. They are beautiful to watch soar but oh that face…only a mother could love!!
Should have been an amazing sighting. It always nice to see raptors spreading their huge wing spans
