House Finch Chicks A Few Days Old photos by Larry Jordan
I thought you might want to see some cute little House Finches this week. My neighbor discovered this nest in one of their potted plants on their back porch last May. It is a beautifully constructed nest of twigs and leaves, lined with fine horse hair. You can see a couple of little beaks and the black ovals that are their closed eyes. Here is a shot of the nest before they hatched.
And the House Finch chicks at about 13 days. Notice the fecal sacs have accumulated around the top of the nest.
Have a great weekend and go see the other Camera Critter Photos.

Hey Larry, I answered your question over at my place, but thought I would pop on over here to see your blog. Neat photos of the House finch nest. The Burrowing owl in about the middle of that page of photos was taken at Ft. Niobrara Nat. Wildlife Refuge. It’s near Valentine Neb, in north central Nebraska. The one at the very bottom of the page was take on a country road southwest of Ft. Nio. NWR. They are, as you probably know, usually near prairie dog colonies. The farmers/ranchers I know absolutely hate prairie dogs.

@Kayleen thanks for the update and thanks for stopping by. I guess those ranchers must love Burrowing Owls then huh?

That’s a great find having finches in potted plants. Might be tough watering around them though. 🙂 Thanks for the nice comments you left at my blog site. I’ll be seeing you around on the meme’s.

Larry,
Thanks so much for the ID of our new little family. She has built her nest on our front door (in a wreath) so we cannot use our front door (we do not want her to abandon her nest) My question is, once the babies leave the nest can we move the wreath and will she continue to lay eggs in it if we do? We do not want to do anything to upset her.
Thanks again
I found an eggshell in my yard in small town suburbia, & it looks just like the house finch egg picture. Thank you! 🙂
I live in SW Missouri.
