Snowy Egret Showing Off photo by Larry Jordan
I captured several images of this Snowy Egret yesterday at the Cosumnes River Preserve located in the Sacramento Valley of California. It was a gorgeous day, with temperatures in the upper sixties, and this bird was taking full advantage of the smorgasbord available to him. The complete story coming soon. In the meantime, go check out some more great bird photos at Bird Photography Weekly!

lovely bird. Snowy egret..i dont suppose the name has anything to do with the habitat it inhabits eh?

@Tom thanks for the visit. I think the “snowy” part comes from the bird’s color 😉
Wow! I’m going to have to keep running into those Snowys so I can catch one fluffing its headdress. Cool!
The green, brown and blue of the water really set the bird off. Wonderful shot.

@Red I’m not sure what he saw or heard that made him stand up and fluff up but I was glad I had a chance to capture it!
@Bob thanks for stopping by with a comment. Yes we saw hundreds of Sandhill Cranes at the preserve. Though, according to some folks we spoke to, not as many birds as there were the day before.
@Mick thank you for the kind words of encouragement
Well done! Capturing good shots of white birds is so difficult. And this one certainly does have attitude.

Beautiful image. The feathers remind me oddly of the hair of one of my aunties. Sortof amusing, actually.
Great shot of the Snowy Egret! It will be several more months before they return here in Maine.
