Great Horned Owl photos by Larry Jordan
I wrote a post on the Great Horned Owl last August when my friend Frank Kratofil took some photos of these beautiful raptors. I am fortunate this year that I will be able to document their lives this spring as they raise what appears to be two chicks at the moment.
Mom was nodding off as one of the little ones came out to take a peak.

Fantastic photos with the young one beside the adult. You are very fortunate to see them like that.

Looks like a little round ball of fluff. Very cute, and a great capture! (Just like a kid to wait until Mom is asleep before peeking out — she must have told him a thousand times to stay in the nest, but do they ever listen?)

@Mick I am so glad I was able to see these birds in their natural habitat and should be able to follow them until they fledge
@Kyle I had to smile when I read your comment. Yup, just like a kid. They discover later in life how smart their parents are
Lots of owls on the birding blogs the last couple of weeks. Since I have never seen one, I obviously should make a concerted effort to go owling 🙂
Very nice Larry! They blend in so well with their surroundings.

These are rare and amazing photos! How wonderful to be able to watch the little owlets grow. Very interesting how the owls seem to merge with the bark.

Hi Larry,
amazing pictures that we do not see so often. Apparently they were not even scare by your presence. Were you close to them? Let’s hope you will be able to update us with the evolution of their chicks!! So cool.

Your little owl friend looks pretty cute getting a sneak peak of your camera lens.
I love their eyes!
Beautiful series on the great horned Owl Larry. It seems to be pretty far off. The shot with the juvenile is cool.
