Off to see the Rails.
The snipe hunt may be among the last of the oldest tricks in the book that still works and has to power to make kids act silly. It is also as this piece points out, a real old fashioned bird harvest that has indeed thankfully declined over the years. Photographing a snipe may be nearly as challenging as shooting one, particular if you are skilled enough to catch the still image of a bird in flight! Just observing this strange little fellow and learning a bit about him can be pure delight for anyone.
