Bald Eagle Liberty at Turtle Bay photos by Larry Jordan
The Bald Eagle pair that have been nesting at Turtle Bay for the past six years, Patriot and Liberty, are beginning to refurbish their nest and display bonding behavior. Since the new bridge and trail over highway 44 have been completed, there are excellent viewing areas accessible to everyone.
I took this photo of Liberty positioning a stick that was brought to the nest by her mate, Patriot, just before sunset last week. Once the daylight hours get longer, I hope to get some better photos and some video of the pair engaged in nesting and breeding behavior. To see some great bird photography, check out Bird Photography Weekly.

Great pictures Larry.
Wow- great shots! Eagles always look so stern.
I love pictures of birds building nests. How far away is your vantage from the bridge?
@Faye thanks. I will be getting some better shots when I can get out there in good light 😉
@Mike yeah, it’s those eyebrows that help shield their eyes that give them that look
@Chantelle there is a walking/bike path that runs along side of the new bridge that is about 120 feet from the eagles nest. You can get great views with binoculars and up close and personal with a scope! Any videos taken, however, will have lots of background noise from the highway
you know them by name? How cool is that. All known nests of eagles are kept secret in Sweden. So, even if I can see a few birds I never find out where the nest are. But they are increasing in numbers and that is good. 🙂
Looking forward to great shots from the nest.
Great photos looking forward to more photos .
i wish i had a camera with a good long distance lens. i spotted a beautiful king fisher with his big crown off of hwy 100 in Los fresnos. great job on your photography.
Good news and lovely photos. 🙂
That is really quite close indeed, and to be able to view the nest from about the same height is great too…much better than trying to seen anything going on in a nest from the ground anyway!
I’m looking forward to watching their progress via your blog, Larry. I finally saw a Bald Eagle in the wild when I visited Florida over Thanksgiving – it was a great moment.
Wow, that first shot of Liberty is absolutely stunning, Larry. Nice job! I hope we get to see more of this pair in the months to come.
Hope you had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year!
