Anna’s Hummingbird For Skywatch Friday

Female Anna’s Hummingbird Welcoming Spring photo by Larry Jordan

I discovered this beautiful little female hummer in a green belt on my lunch break last week.  She was visiting all the new growth along a small creek and I caught her resting on a tree branch against the blue spring sky.

Go see all the other great sky shots at Skywatch Friday!

She looks a little chunky too… wonder if she’ll lay some eggs soon 🙂 That, or she’s been well fed through the winter.

She’s beautiful! I heard last night that “the hummingbirds” have made it to Houston. Won’t be long before we see our first ones in the Dallas area. We have mostly Ruby-Throated here and I planted a garden especially for them!

she is so cute Larry.. I would like to see them and to be able to take pictures, but if this happens, then I guess we would have a lot of troubles with cliamte changes 😉
    Well captured… Congrats

@Rottlady thanks for stopping by with a comment. I always love your Ozark skies!

@Red this little lady was out in the wild but may have been near feeders I don’t know about. Hopefully she will have two new babies this summer and give us more hummers to lighten our days

@Amber I can’t wait to see photos of your hummingbird garden. I am planting some species for hummers and butterflies this spring myself

@Chris you are right there! I love your Snow Bunting captures and would love to see them too

@John I hope you get some warmer weather soon. I love the American Goldfinch photo!

Just before Stacey and I left California we discovered an Anna’s Hummingbird on a very small nest. Her bottom would hang over the nest at times to stretch herself out. The sun wasn’t out each of the times we visited, so I didn’t bring the camera. Hummingbirds are quite the unique species in so many ways.
