Don’t even ask me why I’m doing a birding year list. I have never kept a bird list before. Oh, sure, I checked the birds I’ve seen in the back of a field guide but haven’t kept it updated. I guess the time has come for me to see how many species I actually count in a year.

I did a bit of research on electronic devices to find the easiest way to keep track of birds I spot without spending a lot of time actually compiling the list. I discovered that there are a few good choices that have been reviewed by Grant McCreary on his blog “The Birder’s Library.” I decided to try the BirdLog Worldwide, an iPhone app which is on sale now for $9.99.

I will begin by listing the species in order seen, with location, beginning on January 1st at my home in Oak Run, California. Species I have posted on have a link to that post. For any species that does not have a link to a post, I will try to place an image here.

5.
